2016 - A Look back

How can it be that we are almost two months into 2017 already??

We don't know how everyone else's 2016 went, opinions are vastly different on this, however our 2016 was the year of creative photo shoots and collaborations. Time goes by so quickly and we rarely take a moment to reflect on what has happened. We wanted to remember the fun year we had despite the stress and struggles.

In February we attended our first ever Bridal Show at Briar Ridge. It was a lot of fun to meet other wedding vendors. We finally met Maddie, who is an amazing Hair Stylist, and have collaborated with her a few times on editorial shoots. But best of all she hired us to photograph her wedding!

In March we shot our first wedding of the season and started it off with a bang. Our bride Sam got her gown from Kate Pankoke's bridal line called Elaya Vaughn. We were so excited to be, in some way, connected to one of our favorite shows, Project Runway. We reached out to Kate and she lent us the Mel gown and Fleur Kimono for an amazing bridal collaboration.

This was our editorial shoot with Valerie in April.

We are moms first and love photographing our children even though that is getting harder and harder due to everyone's schedules. Long gone are the days where we had play dates when none of them where in pre-K, school or had after school activities.

We had fun during our quick Easter shoot. It was actually pretty cold that day!

In May we had a Mother's Day Special for some very special moms.

Our boho bridal shoot was definitely a highlight of 2016. We loved working with all the talented artists. Our friend Charlyn of Charlyn's florals outdid herself on the flowers for this shoot. The Elaya Vaughn gown and kimono were to die for.

Then all of the sudden it was summer! We had tons of high school senior sessions and each of us launched our Senior Rep Programs. In June we collaborated with a local boutique called Mink64 and used some of our Reps for the shoot.

Fun play date and photo shoot with our children for the 4th of July. This time Charlyn's kids joined the party!

Somehow we got lucky and got press passes to Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We had a shoot in Chicago earlier that afternoon and drove to Milwaukee afterwards. We felt super cool walking in with our cameras and to just show our press passes after we got told, we couldn't just walk in with cameras. We got to shoot The Wombats and Young the Giant. It was such a great show! Jamie also snatched herself a gig with Saint Motel at Lollapalooza.

In August we had a Senior Rep Shoot with our Models at the Lake County Fair. Can we just say how much we love our girls?! We each have so many great images from their senior sessions. Big Shout out to all of them!

In September we photographed Maddie & Kingsley's wedding.

Maddie's wedding in September felt like another vendor collaboration. Ami did her make-up. She was one of the models in our boho bridal shoot and did the make-up for Valerie's editorial shoot. Charlyn did the flowers again.

Another big milestone for our families - our youngest children, Cash and Malina, started Kindergarten. During the day our houses are now empty. As bittersweet as it is, it's amazing to be able to meet someone for coffee on a whim or work all day or enjoy a few hours of freedom.

In October Carmen went to Germany for a whole month and got to photograph some amazing scenery and a couple models. Jamie had some family and senior sessions since we had beautiful fall weather in NW Indiana.

In November we were so busy, we just played catch-up. As tradition, we photographed each other's families for our Christmas cards middle of December.

We are sure we are forgetting a few things. We had more weddings throughout the year that we are hoping to blog soon. We are proud we did get a few blog posts up in 2016 vs. 2015. It's definitely a challenge for us since we still have to cook, clean, drive our kids around, find sitters and rides for after school photo shoots, meet with clients, spend lots and lots of hours working on the computer. We are still struggling to balance our personal and professional lives but, we are so passionate about what we do, that somehow we make it work. (Even though some days are harder than others.) 2016 was a colorful year with lots of positive memories and lots of changes. Writing some of this down helps us focus on the great and stay inspired. Check out our other blog posts to get the full details on our shoots! Thank you to everyone who helped us make 2016 great, especially our husbands who are supporting our journey! Here is to an unforgettable 2017!
